Case study Emerald Headingley Stadium

Yorkshire and North-West Caddick Construction Ltd who specialise in design and build projects, teamed up with Bison Precast to complete its work on the Emerald Headingley Stadium in Leeds.

Caddick Construction approached Bison Precast to design, manufacture and supply a terrace package for three stands at the 17,000-capacity stadium, which is home to Yorkshire County Cricket Club, Leeds Rhinos rugby league club and Yorkshire Carnegie rugby union club.

Bison Precast’s best-in-class concrete was used to form new terrace units, step units, staircases, landings, vomitory walls, gable ends and stair cores.

The precast components were delivered to site on 45-feet articulated vehicles, with step-frame trailers used to transport the walls. Access to the lower-tier stand was limited so, following detailed coordination, delivery vehicles had to pass beneath the existing stand to avoid damaging the supporting columns.

Throughout all phases of the project, careful design and planning ensured that Bison Precast’s plan of manufacture remained in line with the Caddick site erection programme. The scheme was managed to allow a number of sporting events to go ahead while work was ongoing.

Initial work on the ground’s South Stand began in November 2017, with the finishing touches to the North Stand being completed in March 2019.
