Case Study: Forterra helps to build Eden Shopping Centre

Case study Forterra helps to build Eden Shopping Centre

Location: High Wycombe

Sector: Retail and leisure

Product: Fenlite Background Aggregate Blocks

The Eden Centre, a major shopping centre in High Wycombe is now open for business. Construction has been to the highest standards and Forterra s Fenlite medium density blocks have played an instrumental role in the build. The aggregate blocks were used for the shell and core of the structure, which was developed for clients, Stannifer by main contractors, Brookfield, with Lee Marley employed as brickwork contractors.

“This was a major and prestigious job to work on,” comments Dale Hardwick of Lee Marley. “The design and build nature of the construction meant that we had to devise a solution for the internal walls that suited every purpose in a number of different locations, and the Fenlite blocks were the ideal choice.”

Fenlite blocks were used for the inner skin of the cavity walls, the lift shaft and main internal walls. The light weight of the blocks was a key issue as it allowed compliance with all manual handling requirements, and the close proximity of the Forterra factory meant that deliveries and collections were easy and on time. In addition, with the cavities, Fenlite ensured that the construction attained the required U-values.

Fenlite is a medium density concrete block that not only offers easy handling but also excellent sound insulating qualities and a high strength to weight ratio. It provides an excellent base for load bearing conditions and has the flexibility to be used where strength and durability is required.

The Eden Centre offers mixed use facilities including retail, leisure and residential space in a multi million pound development that spearheads the overall regeneration of the High Wycombe town centre. Just fifteen days from opening, the Centre celebrated its one millionth visitor, demonstrating the interest generated by this prestigious and luxury shopping and leisure experience project.
