How a Peterborough children’s free play facility is benefiting from the Forterra Community Fund

Families First, a community interest company that facilitates free play sessions for local children at its venue at Crofts Corner, Peterborough, close to our Kings Dyke plant, has received a £1,000 donation from our Community Fund. The donation will cover the running costs of 10 sessions, including activities and a hot meal.

Families First has a strong history of working with those who have additional social, educational and physical needs. The free play project aims to provide positive experiences for local families facing pressures such as isolation and loneliness, poverty, social exclusion and family troubles.

Crofts Corner benefits from a big garden with lots of play equipment and a large indoor hall. It’s a place where children aged between five and 12 have the opportunity to make new friends and enjoy lots of different activities, including den building, sports, games, and arts and crafts.

Cherry Lester, manager at Families First Peterborough, said, “It is always a challenge to sustain these types of projects, so we have made a commitment to do our very best to deliver free play sessions to local children and families. Now more than ever, it is vital that families can participate, have fun, make new friends, enjoy a hot meal and engage with friendly, experienced staff.”

Helen Newberry, Head of Communications at Forterra, said: “We’re glad that this donation has helped keep this important community project running.

“The Forterra Community Fund provides support for a variety of worthy causes across the country. We welcome applications that seek to make a difference to the local community.”

The Forterra Community Fund gives charities, clubs, groups and societies the opportunity to apply for funding or building products to be used in projects that make a positive contribution to their local community.
