Forterra donation equips Staffordshire construction college

Chameleon School of Construction is a centre that provides diplomas in bricklaying, plastering, tiling and motor vehicles alongside running short four-week courses in multi-skills and construction skills certification schemes (CSCS). It supports all ages from school leavers with no upper age limit at all. The college supports adult learners who are looking to retrain and students who require help to fund their qualification through close links with funding providers. The college also have tutors who cover national vocational qualifications (NVQs) and who work with learners who are working on sites.

The donation will cover the purchase of tools, equipment and the correct personal protective equipment (PPE) to gift to those learners who are facing financial hardship.

Hayley Walker at Chameleon School of Construction said, “We are grateful to Forterra for this donation as it allows us to empower our learners. By gifting a trowel for example, we are literally giving a learner the tools needed to work. Allowing them to feel independent and helping to stamp out imposter syndrome which is very common until a learner has their own tools.

“Many of our adult learners have gone on to utilise their skills either by setting up their own business or developing themselves further by obtaining their CSCS cards and working on site.”

Caroline Wildman, Marketing Director at Forterra said, “We are glad to see our donation go towards important tools for the students at the Chameleon School of Construction. We believe it’s important to have access to a full education to help develop the construction workers of the future and level out the playing field. We hope the students feel more confident and are better able to reach their goals with equipment of their own.”

The Forterra Community Fund gives charities, clubs, groups and societies the opportunity to apply for funding or building products to be used in projects that make a positive contribution to their local community.
